I was born in Glasgow, Scotland and started messing around with guitars when I was about 12 years old. Stopped messing around, and at 13, began to take it seriously by learning some of the songs, mostly instrumentals, the grabbed my ear.
The Shadows, The Tornadoes, Duane Eddy, The Surfaris, The Ventures. . . . the list goes on.
I also worked off and on, for about 3 years in Germany.Back then, any musician with a British accent, could get steady work!
After moving to Ohio in 1980, I managed to hook up with an amazing boogie woogie piano player by the name of Big Joe Duskin, for about 3 years and together with his band we played a whole bunch of bars, clubs and blues festivals all over the midwest and also opened for BB king a couple of times.
Next, I started working with H-Bomb Ferguson, a blues shouter from way back who used to do the Chitlin Circuit with Big Joe, BB King and all the great blues players of the day.
Again, I was playing a lot of the places that I had played with Big Joe, and was also lucky enough to play a major blues festival in Amsterdam!
I was also a founding member of Soul Pocket, a regionally successful 12 piece funky soulful R&B band.
Just before I left Ohio to come to California, I was also fortunate to play with BB King's daughter, Shirley, when she came to town for a 3 gig weekend.
Since moving to California in 2005, I've worked briefly with a couple of bands and about 5 years ago, I started working with Tim Cash, singer, guitarist and bass player who moved up from San Diego, and have been playing 5 to 6 times a month between San Diego and LA.
During the day, I'm a guitar tech at Guitar Center in San Marcos. I also teach blues guitar in the evenings and and do most of the gigs on the weekend!
