George Miguel releases new album, CALIFORNIA, on 11.11.14

On his new release, "California," singer-songwriter George Miguel teams with legendary producer and guitarist Pete Anderson on a collection of original Americana songs inspired by life in the Golden State.

The Songs

From compelling lyrics to memorable melodies, George Miguel's songs are a study in introspection and celebration -- a vignette of life, love, happiness and sorrow set against the backdrop of an ever-changing California.

"These are tunes I've written over the last few years, living here in California," says George Miguel. "Transitions and changes. New ideas and paths. When we don't know where we're going exactly, it isn't always comfortable. It can also be very exhilarating. That's what I tried to convey in these songs. The emotion of life in transformation."

The Production
Pete Anderson gives the Bakersfield Sound a 21st Century update with tight, punchy production that's out in front and full of energy. Bringing years of studio experience and a deep knowledge of California roots music, Anderson paints Miguel's songs with classic Country and Rock sounds that are pure Americana.

Anderson is also featured on Lead Guitar. From the smoldering slide solo on "American Freedom" to delicate harmonic precision on "Best Part About Me Is U," the noted guitarist brings his A game.

"Getting to work with Pete was really a dream come true," says George. "I've always been a fan of his music, both production and guitar. And not just the Platinum records he made with Dwight Yoakam, which are definitive Country Music history, but the albums with Michelle Shocked, Sara Evans and Mark Chesnutt. When I write songs, I often hear them as if Pete were producing them. Especially these songs. He knows California Country."

In addition to Anderson, "California" features an appearance by trumpet master, Lee Thornburg. Thornburg was a member of classic groups, Supertramp and Tower of Power, and was with the Tonight Show band for five seasons.

"I was really excited about getting to record with Lee," says George. "I always envisioned a grand trumpet solo on "I'm Back," like the one Johnny Cash had on "Ring of Fire." When Pete told me he had gotten Lee to do it, I was beyond thrilled. I was able to watch Lee essentially compose the solo on the spot and record both parts, all in the matter of a couple of hours. At the end, he handed me the sheet music for the solo he had written. That was definitely my favorite night of the sessions."

"California" will be independently released on 11.11.14. It will be available on CD and everywhere digital music is sold. iTunes pre-sale begins 10.21.14. For more information, visit georgemiguel.com
