Rocky Zharp & Dan Kennedy

BLUES CRACKERS / REV ROCKY ZHARP

(DECEMBER 15, 2013 SHOW)

Dan Kennedy started playing drums at age 8, guitar at age 12 and was playing gigs by the time he was 15. By 1969 he had taken up harmonica and bass as well, and was working constantly in the Riverside County music scene.

In 1970 Dan toured Vietnam, playing for our military troops during the Vietnam war. After returing to the U.S. he moved to Santa Cruz California and played the bay area music scene for all of the '70s while also working as a studio musician. He returned to Southern California in 1979 where he formed "Danny and the Deviates".

A glutton for performing, several times in his career Dan would go up to four years straight playing 7 nights a week, never taking a night off!

He has worked with members of Roy Orbisons band, Buffalo Springfield, Herbie and the Headhunters, the Platters, and has fronted his own bands.

Dan and Rocky Zharp first worked together in late 1979, and through the years played many casual gigs together, until when in 2007 Dan joined Rocky's group, "The Blues Crackers". The have worked on several CDs together including The Blues Crackers "Still Crackin'" "Crackin' Up" "Through The Years" and "Josh Jones, Living The Dream"

Not long after Dan and Rocky were on Chords and Vines, Dan's lovely wife Linda passed after after a long battle with cancer.  Dan wrote, plays all the instruments, and does the vocals on this beautiful song as a tribute to her.  RIP Linda. You are missed.

Rocky Zharp born in Indiana, was given his first musical instrument, a1 harmonica, by his great grandmother when he was a toddler. By age 15, Rocky was working as a bass player in a three-piece rock band. Rocky won a local talent contest, before joining the army, playing guitar, harmonica and singing original songs.

After moving to California, Rocky began playing harmonica with Bodie Mountain Express, a blue grass/country band, which had recorded on RCA Records and worked with Col. Tom Parker (Elvis’ manager). They performed at county fairs and festivals throughout southern California.

Rocky has played harmonica with such jazz/blues greats as Eric Burdon, The Mighty Flyers, The Toller Brothers, Jerry Van Blair, Bill Shields, and Big “J” McNelly. Rocky has played with other well-known artist such as: Don Ho, Freddy Fender, Rosie & the Originals, Randy Fuller, and Buddy Merrill and recorded with Junior  Watson, Larry Taylor, Honey Piazza, Jody Reynolds, and Johnny Neal.

Rocky now has an endorsement from Shaker Harmonica Microphones. www.shakermicrophone.com
